阿满（张刚 饰）是个喜剧演员兼导演，他编排的喜剧作品深受观众喜爱。然而人怕出名猪怕壮，再好的人不免受到别有用心之人的排挤和非议，但支部书记迟学智（徐平 饰）和女演员白莉（吴海燕 饰）始终站在阿满一边。文革开始后，斗争的矛头对准了阿满，但他仍然苦中作乐，宽厚待人，有时甚至以德报怨。但灾难是不以人的意志为转移的，支持他的迟书记不幸惨死，钟科长（牛犇 饰）趁人之危向白莉求爱遭拒怀恨在心。昔日伙伴撮合阿满和白莉在酒馆相聚，一对有情人相对无言。文革结束后，阿满从“牛棚”中解放出来，他最忘不下的仍是喜剧，但白莉能等到这一天吗.......。In the tenth series, in the second episode ("The Son'll Come Out") Michael comes out as gay to his parents, first to his father after coming home drunk then later to his mother.
