故事主要描写我辽东军区第四纵队司令员胡奇才在东北新开岭一带，全歼号称千里驹的国民党第二十五师的战斗故事。。本剧讲述了一个言行不同寻常、不擅长沟通的怪咖医学天才陈辉，进入医院后，亲历复杂的医患关系，面对生命的无常，屡屡受挫，在外科同僚们的帮助下，一步步突破自己"只见疾病不见人"的局限，成长为一名既可以医人也可以医心的好医生。。The film opens with a narrated disclaimer over footage of an opening coffin.
