主要讲述的是纪晓岚青年时代的故事，由多个故事组成，以单元剧的形式拍摄。 少年纪晓岚（黄维德饰）号称天下第一才子，科举功课对他来说，已经不是问题。他爱管事，好打抱不平，并终于在一个朋友出事的时候，为朋友充当了一回业余讼师。他凭着雄辩和机智，成功地将被定成死罪的朋友救了出来。而后，在他才发现他朋友确实犯了罪，又作为受害人的讼师起诉朋友，并最终将朋友送回了监狱。 这件事后，纪晓岚却再也不能平静地读书了，他对讼师的职业上了瘾并乐此不疲…… 但是，纪晓岚的讼师生涯却遭到了更大的挑战。这里边有来自糊涂官乌七（王刚饰）的糊涂断案法，还有向来以关系、门路作为讼师第一要务的吴正义（张东升饰）的挑战。纪晓岚在其后的几个案子，如富豪被杀案，假皇上案，新娘失踪案等等，都和吴正义针锋相对…… 而纪晓岚最大的挑战还来自于吴正义的女儿吴师师（伊能静饰）。这个要强的女孩子熟读了所有...。主要讲述百货业先驱者哈里·戈登·塞尔弗里奇的传奇经历。塞尔弗里奇是美国出生的英国商人，1906年来到英国，开始在伦敦牛津大街建造塞尔弗里奇百货商店。该店于1909年开业，成为百货商店的「始祖」。后来，情妇和赌瘾让塞尔弗里奇失去了巨额家产，在穷困潦倒中死去。与塞尔弗里奇有染的著名女性包括：伊莎朵拉·邓肯（Isadora Duncan），现代舞的创始者，使舞蹈成为人类肢体与感情的自然表达方式，因披肩卷入跑车轮胎中而意外身亡；安娜·帕芙洛娃（Anna Pavlova），俄罗斯芭蕾舞演员，当代著名的舞蹈家，为传播和普及芭蕾舞艺术做出重大贡献。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
