受处分的刑警队长马东调到玉清市第一天上班，上班途中遭遇女警何雨晴在追拿犯罪嫌疑人，协助抓捕后接到电话说有案件，马东直接去了案件现场，马东与何雨晴随即介入案件。受害人叫王小蒙，是玉清学院的学生，现场侦查时候学校负责人试图推脱责任被马东一口叫破。受害人父亲接到通知，不能相信女儿去世的事实，恳请公安人员彻查此案，马东等人夜查学生宿舍，初步了解死者与同学间关系不太和睦，又了解到死者还有性爱视频流出传播，随即做了笔录结束当日的侦查工作。晚餐时刻，局长安排警局刑侦小队众人火锅店为新队长马东接风，席后马东送何雨晴回家，次日作为企业家的何雨晴母亲何苗在工地视察时候遇到有人刺杀自己。。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely.
