This story relates to our lives as we strive to do our best, not just in sports, school but also relationships between friends...。任职于日本外务省“国人海外恐怖事件对策室”的外交官黑田康作（织田裕二 饰），在过去的岁月里曾成功于意大利、南美等地解决了日本人质的绑架和诱拐等棘手事件。此番他受上司安藤庸介（鹿贺丈史 饰）之命，前往旧金山担任外交部副部长观上祥子（草刈民代 饰）的安保任务。在美国盘桓期间，他和见到了曾经共事于日本驻墨西哥大使馆的同事霜村毅（香川照之 饰）。可是未过多久，霜村自杀身亡，而他生前居然是发生在日本的某起凶杀案的重要嫌疑人。东京案件的负责人佃警署刑警大恒利香子（柴崎幸 饰）与霜村的女儿瑠衣（夏帆 饰）接洽，为了查明真相，她们启程前往旧金山与黑田会面。 扑朔迷离的案件，令人难以置信的真相……。
