19世纪中叶，西班牙巴斯克地区一个偏远所在。衣着考究的阿尔弗雷德·奥提兹（Ramón Agirre 饰）来到了当地一个小镇，他自称为省政府工作，此行的目的是找当第一个外号“铁锤”的铁匠帕尔西·弗朗西斯科（坎迪多·乌兰加 Kandido Uranga 饰）了解事情。从当地人口中得知，铁锤脾气暴躁，不好相处，他所在的铁匠铺已成废墟，传言中这个铁匠更被人们视作魔鬼。未过多久，小镇的男人弄清了奥提兹的真实意图，原来数年前的西班牙资产阶级革命后，传言卡洛斯的黄金就隐藏在铁匠铺中。利欲熏心的镇民和奥提兹前往铁匠铺，却不知这里正是地狱魔鬼出没的恐怖所在…… 本片根据西班牙民间故事改编。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
