１９４５年５月。西部帝国大学医学部・助教授の鳥居太一（妻夫木聡）は、教授の指示のもと、米兵捕虜の手術を手伝うが、それは人体実験手術であった。教授に恐ろしい手術の中止を進言するが、却下され、８名の捕虜が死亡。戦犯裁判で死刑判決を受けた太一は、凶行を止められなかった自分と向き合うことになる。。Two narrators, one seen and one unseen, discuss possible connections between a series of paintings. The on-screen narrator walks through three-dimensional reproductions of each painting, featuring real people, sometimes moving, in an effort to explain the series' significance.。
