Now able to predict the news 24 hours in advance, the reporter goes about scooping all the other papers, picking sure-fire winners at the race t...。上世纪80年代，失去妻子的人民警察霍建国（王太利 饰）独自抚养女儿燕燕，在家他辛苦操劳，洗衣做饭，在外则尽职尽责，勇敢地与歹徒们做着不懈的斗争。他是百姓们所钦佩的对象，也是女儿最为敬仰的好父亲。转眼间，燕燕（霍思燕 饰）出落成亭亭玉立的大姑娘，情窦初开的她与吊儿郎当的肖利（肖央 饰）情投意合，却遭到父亲极力的反对，父女的关系也开始紧张起来。年复一年，曾经飒爽英姿的老霍已经变成满头白发，走路蹒跚并且固执倔强的老头，燕燕则在奔忙的大都市辛苦打拼，承受各种各样的委屈，可是这对父女却始终有着无法跨越的鸿沟与不能割舍的牵绊……。
