The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely. The tamped-down acting and the spare, tense visual rhetoric suggest a state of moral crisis as well as the response—as much in style as in substance—that it demands.。曾經在擂台上大放異彩的王牌摔角選手大村孝志（棚橋弘至飾），因負傷而消聲匿跡。一直衷情摔角運動的他，選擇戴上壞蛋面具，以『蟑螂哥』的蒙面身份重出江湖，就算與對手死纏爛打，被觀眾們的噓聲嘲弄，打死也不離開他最熱愛的摔角擂台。面對兒子祥太追問起自己的職業，蒙面俠『蟑螂哥』的稱號實在難以啟齒，直到祥太意外發現爸爸竟然是摔角擂台上的無惡不作的壞蛋冠軍！ 更糟糕的是同學們居然誤會祥太的爸爸是人氣摔角冠軍Dragon George，紛紛向祥太索取爸爸的簽名，一連串意想不到的笑料就此展開。就在此時，大村的膝傷又復發了，醫生告誡他萬萬不能使出「必殺技」，但是大村要用他的人生毅力教會祥太──勝利不是最重要的事。。
