电影改编自小说《完整的审判》，是一部奇幻惊悚电影。该片讲述的是全世界已经死去的人突然复活，去找杀害自己的人复仇的故事。其中就有一位母亲时隔七年死而复生，去找自己当检察官的儿子复仇，试图杀掉自己的儿子。。解放前夕，童养媳苦妹与未婚夫方冬哥及方妈妈，为躲避血吸虫病而逃离江西老家。苦妹子虽然是方家的童养媳，但方家对她如同己出，与未婚夫冬哥的感情也很融洽。逃难路上，方老爹不幸病故，一家人又被抓壮丁的国民党士兵冲散，苦妹孤独一人流落到浙江双塔乡，为生存，只得另嫁他人。解放后，苦妹子的生活渐渐好起来，但血吸虫病夺取了苦妹子的丈夫，并使她受到传染。苦妹子到血防站治病，意外与来此地工作的冬哥重逢。。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
